Bringing Sepsis Back: A Review of the Guidelines

Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. Mortality rates for patients with sepsis are between 1 in 3 and 1 in 6. This presentation will review definitions of sepsis and give statistics regarding sepsis, characterize different categories of sepsis, review the historical guidelines, discuss the changes to the 2021 sepsis guidelines, and identify implications and interventions for NPs caring for sepsis patients.
