Headaches are one of the most common complaints presenting to Emergency Departments (EDs), accounting for more than 5 million visits annually. Nurse Practitioners must be able to differentiate between the different types of headaches and remain up to date on available evidence-based treatment options. Dr. Oliver will:
Discuss the incidence of headaches in the ED
Describe different types of headaches
Review the most recent evidence-based guidelines for treating headaches in the ED.

Inpatient Hospital Medicine: Are You Up to Date on the Guidelines?

Contact Hours 1.5 (0.1 Rx)

Hospital medicine is one of the most rapidly emerging specialties in the US.  According to the American Association of Nurse Practitioner Database (2019), over 270,000 nurse practitioners are licensed in the United States. Almost eight percent are certified in acute care, and nearly 50 percent are credentialed in the hospital setting. Over the past several years, the demand for NPs has grown in the hospital setting; however, a deficiency of specialized education has the potential to limit opportunities.

Dr. Oliver will:
Describe the NP role in the hospital setting
Review guidelines for admissions and rounding for hospitalist NPs
Identify strategies for precepting NP students in the inpatient setting.
