Focusing on evaluation of the patient with spine-related issues, this course reviews the components of a comprehensive musculoskeletal examination, including bony and soft tissue palpation, range of motion, and neurologic testing to aid in proper diagnosis and treatment. Specialty testing techniques to uncover specific pathology are demonstrated, and diagnostic testing is discussed, with review of radiographs of the spine.

The review of pathoanatomy and differential diagnosis includes:

  • Cervical spine: Acute sprain, fracture, disc syndrome, spondylosis, torticollis.
  • Thoracic spine: Kyphosis, scoliosis, thoracolumbar fracture.
  • Lumbar spine: Low back sprain, degenerative disc disease, osteoporosis, spinal stenosis, facet syndrome and seronegative spondyloarthropathies
